What is the American Express payment system?
American Express (short for AmeEx or AmEx) is a payment system from America, whose main products are payment and credit bank cards, as well as money orders, postal orders, and traveler’s checks. The company also offers travel services. One of the most convenient international payment systems, which works with bank cards of the same name.
The company was founded in 1850 in New York, USA. Initially, it worked as a delivery service of valuable goods. But already in 1891 the company created and issued the first traveler’s check. The first American prepaid card was issued on October 1, 1958, its owner being Elvis Presley.
In 1959 it offered its customers plastic cards, before that only cardboard cards had been used. That was the moment when the first payment system based on plastic cards appeared. Today it is the third largest in the world after the giant’s Visa and MasterCard. The AmEx card is especially in demand in Canada and the U.S. but is also actively used around the world.
The payment system cards are designed for wealthy people who are passionate about travel. Provided to users in several categories: American Express Card, American Express Gold Card, and American Express Platinum Card. The most prestigious is the Centurion card. The main difference between these varieties is the amount of credit limit and the list of additional services provided by the company.
